Katzenparade Teil 492 - Katzenhaus

As you could witness several times before – cats love card board boxes. Due to my non-existant DIY skills, I just left the boxes as they were or cut in some crude openings with a carpet cutter. From all bought cardboard houses, only the London bus is still alive. Most probably due to the fact that it is standing underneath a shelf. Then I spotted this house and another one on Amazon and I knew I had to give it a try. It is completely out of cardboard and it does not need any plastic or metal fastening devices and as far as I can see they did not use glue. In other words this house is so animal-safe, I would have given it to the bunnies. It consists of a one story „big“ house with various openings including a skylight plus a little „mouse house“. As you can see the skylight is only secured with 2 strands of cardboard but it easily supports 4kg of Isfrid. Naturally the cats loved it!

PS: In the meantime Mrs. Peel fell off the first floor landing as well but was lucky, too. So far no cat has fallen down twice… (Previous candidates were Ice-B – also as a kitten – and Joschi who was pushed by Mira – who else? And then there was Marvi but she fell of the stairs while leaning so far forward that even her substantial center of gravity could not balance that out.) By the way, our breeder Sylvia used thin arcylic panels to secure her staircase. Not a bad idea when you have lots of kittens.

Wie ihr euch schon bei diversen Gelegenheiten überzeugen konntet: Katzen lieben Pappkartons! Da meine Fähigkeiten als Heimwerkerin ja gegen Null gehen, hatte ich die Kartons entweder so gelassen wie sie waren oder mit einem Teppichmesser einige windschiefe Öffnungen herausgeschnitten. Von all den gekauften Papphäusern hat nur der Londoner Bus bisher überlebt. Wahrscheinlich weil er unter einem Regal steht. Dann habe ich kürzlich dieses Häuschen (und noch ein anderes) bei Amazon entdeckt und wusste sofort, das wollte ich ausprobieren. Das Tolle daran: Es besteht komplett aus Pappe. Man braucht keine wie auch immer gearteten Metal- oder Plastikteile, um es aufzubauen und zusammenzuhalten und soweit ich sehen kann, wurde auch kein Klebstoff verwendet. De facto ist das Häuschen so tierfreundlich, dass ich es sogar den Kaninchen gegeben hätte. Zum Lieferumfang gehört neben dem einstöckigen „großen“ Haus, das sich durch mehrere unterschiedlich große Öffnungen und eine Dachluke auszeichnet, auch noch ein kleines „Mäusehäuschen“. Wie ihr sehen könnt, wird die Dachluke nur mit zwei Pappstreifen gesichert, hält aber problemlos 4 kg Isfrid aus. Klarer Fall, dass die kleinen und großen Katzen begeistert sind!

PS: Inzwischen ist auch Mrs. Peel von der Galerie im ersten Stock gefallen und hat ebenfalls Glück gehabt. Bisher ist noch nie eine Katze zweimal gestürzt… (Vorherige Kandidaten waren übringens der Eisbär – ebenfalls als Kitten – und Joschi, der von Mira – von wem auch sonst? – geschubst worden war. Und dann war da noch Marvi, aber die ist oben von der Treppe gefallen, weil sie sich so weit vorgelehnt hatte, dass selbst ihr beachtlicher Schwerpunkt das Gleichgewicht nicht mehr halten konnte.) Unsere Züchterin Sylvia hatte ihr Treppenhaus übrigens mit dünnen, transparenten Acrylplatten gesichert. Wenn man viele Kitten hat, sicher eine gute Investition.
