After we talked about the eloquent cattail, I can show you an example and more body language today. Case in point is an encounter between Jaspar’s doppelganger and Maxine. As the only not neutered tomcat in the neighbourhood the doppelganger thinks he is the boss. So when he spots Maxine sitting in the drive, the little hooligan obviously wants to flex his muscles. So he approaches Maxine showing his side to appear larger and lowering his head threateningly. I think he was convinced that Maxine would flee when I took the second picture. But as you can see she is not impressed and does not budge. Naturally, he does not want to give in and advances some more. While Maxine’s tail was tucked underneath her in the beginning you can now see it slashing about as she becomes more agitated. Her sitting position is no disadvantage to her by the way, as she can roll onto the side in no time and expect an attack with feet up and all claws drawn. So the doppelganger is in a predicament, he does not want a real fight but he also does not want to lose his face. Then he spots me and uses this as an excuse. He blinks to show Maxine that there is no more threat and walks away. Case closed. (Follow the links if you want to know more, but get Google translator ready as the texts are in German.)
