Have I told you that I started another vegetable experiment this year? This time I grew tomatoes and peppers in flower pots on the frist floor terrace and in the front yard. The plants in the front yard started really well and produced lots of fruits but then the rain started and instead of harvesting I threw the rotting plants away mid September. In contrast to that the sheltered plants grew really well – as you can see. By the way, did you know that green, red and yellow paper are actually different stages of the same vegetable? First the peppers are green and while they mature they first turn red and then yellow. That is why yellow peppers are the mildest and more expensive.

Habe ich euch schon erzählt, dass ich dieses Jahr ein weiteres Gemüseexperiment gestartet hatte? Dieses Mal habe ich Tomaten und Paprika in Blumentöpfen auf der Terrasse im ersten Stock und im vorderen Garten „angebaut“. Die Pflanzen im Vorgarten starteten zwar gut und brachte viele kleine Früchte hervor, aber dann begann der Regen und statt zu ernten habe ich die verfaulenden Pflanzen dann Mitte September entsorgt. Die Terrassenpflanzen machten sich dagegen sehr gut – wie ihr sehen könnt. Wusstet ihr übrigens, dass es sich bei grünen, roten und gelben Paprika nur um die Entwicklungsstadien desselben Gemüses handelt? Anfangs sind die Paprika grün und während sie reifen werden sie erst rot und dann gelb. Darum sind gelbe Paprika auch milder und teurer.
